SUS operates as a regional non-governmental organization, dedicated to uplifting the lives of 3 million underprivileged individuals in 31 upazilas across Netrakona, Sunamgonj, Mymensingh, Jamalpur and Sherpur districts. Through a comprehensive and participatory approach centered on human rights, integration and community involvement; SUS strives to eradicate poverty and injustice, aiming to create a society where people live with dignity and justice. Since its establishment in 1986, SUS has been actively supporting marginalized groups, particularly women, adolescents and children by implementing diverse and demand based initiatives. These initiatives aim to raise awareness, enhance the capacities of the ultra-poor and underprivileged; integrate and educate marginalized children; provide quality healthcare and promote safe motherhood; ensure access to safe drinking water while improving nutrition and sanitation; facilitate the social inclusion of individuals with disabilities; practice organic and sustainable agriculture; empower communities to cope with natural disasters; advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment; ensure food security and sustainable livelihoods for tribal (adibasi) and ethnic minorities; offer legal services to victims; assist underprivileged individuals in asserting their rights and foster collaboration with governmental and non-governmental institutions through networking and advocacy. The SUS headquarters is located in the northeastern part of Netrakona district town, approximately 160 km north-eastern away from Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh.
