Safe Motherhood Day Celebrated in Netrokona to Ensure Health Protection

With the slogan “Equity in Maternal Health, No Mother Will Be Left Behind,” a discussion meeting and a health camp were held in Netrokona to mark Safe Motherhood Day. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about maternal and child health, family planning, and adolescent-friendly service centers at the village level.

On Monday afternoon, this awareness program was organized at the Challisha Model Union Health and Family Welfare Center in Netrokona Sadar Upazila. It was attended by expectant mothers, parents-in-law, and adolescents from various local educational institutions.

Key Highlights of the Event

  • Organizers & Collaborators: The discussion and health camp were organized by the district’s Health Rights Forum and Youth Forum, with support from Bangladesh Health Watch and Sabalamby (a local non-governmental organization).

  • Medical Consultation: Specialist doctors answered various health-related questions from the attendees. Medical Officer Dr. Arifur Rahman and Monira Hossain (in-charge of the center) highlighted the importance of awareness and proper care for expectant mothers.

  • Call to Action: Md. Rafikul Islam, Deputy Director of the Family Planning Department, attended the event and urged the general public to utilize the healthcare services provided by government health centers.

  • Key Leadership: The event was presided over by the President of the Health Rights Forum and heroic freedom fighter Mozammel Haque Bachchu, and moderated by Kohinur Begum from Sabalamby.

Community Feedback: During the session, local women shared the various complications they face regarding maternal healthcare. Significant concerns and information were also raised regarding the alarming trends and risks associated with Cesarean deliveries (C-sections) at private clinics.
