The ASTHA project, supported by the Swiss Government, operates within the districts of Mymensingh, Netrokona, and Sherpur. With a clear objective to promoting peace, tolerance, and an inclusive democratic space, the project actively engages with upazila-based Youth Forums. To provide guidance and advocacy support for these youth volunteer initiatives, the project collaborates closely with District-level Civic Platforms, each comprising 30 members.
Recently, the Civic Platform in Mymensingh organized a sharing meeting aimed at sharing insights with local political leaders, members of civil society, and the newly elected Mayor of Mymensingh City Corporation, Mr. Ikramul Haque Titu. The event commenced with a warm welcome, as Civic Platform members, led by convener Mr. Rakibul Islam and the Acting Executive Director of Sabalamby Unnayan Samity (SUS), greeted Mayor Titu with flowers.
During the meeting, Civic Platform members and representatives from the Youth Forum outlined the project’s objectives and raised various civic issues pertinent to the city. The convener of the Mymensingh Sadar Youth Forum expressed their hopes for the Mayor’s proactive involvement in promoting social peace and tolerance.
Notably, former Civil Surgeon of Mymensingh district, Dr. Adus Samad, graced the occasion as a special guest, sharing his expectations with the city Mayor.
In his address, Mayor Ikramul Haque Titu expressed gratitude for the organization of such an interactive event, emphasizing the importance of hearing the voices of civil society. He acknowledged the valuable suggestions provided, which would contribute to enriching his development plans. Furthermore, he stressed that social change is not solely the responsibility of the Mymensingh City Corporation or the Mayor; comprehensive support is essential, with Civic Platform and Youth Forum members playing vital roles. Concluding his remarks, he thanked all involved in orchestrating the event.
